The award of the label rewards all the officials and agents of the
institution for their genuine commitment in the environmentally sound management of waste and
their contribution to environmental enhancement.
A plan for the prevention and environmentally sound management of waste was finalised
with an advisor from the SuperDrecksKëscht® fir Betriber as part of a joint
action by the Ministry of the Environment and the Chamber of Trades (Chambre
des Métiers). The Court had already had in place for a number of
years an active policy for the collection, recycling and disposal of some specific
forms of waste (paper, plastic, household waste, neutralisation of waste waters).
The realisation of a waste treatment plan is a more voluntarist step which
involves reorganising the process for the sorted collection of waste and putting in
place the appropriate infrastructure. It also requires a considerable financial effort, since it
leads to a doubling of the budget earmarked for this area.
Implementation of the environmentally sound waste management plan is reviewed and assessed according
to a number of criteria, notably implementation of measures to prevent and reduce
waste, sorted collection of residual substances and cooperation with accredited disposal firms which
guarantee high-quality recycling and environmentally-sound disposal of those residual substances. 36 categories of
waste have been defined (ranging from glass and cans to toner cartridges for
printers and photocopiers, and including kitchen and garden waste, polystyrene, lights and colour
residues produced in the printing shop). Various types of containers have been installed,
adapted to the nature of the waste.
